The Kabbalistic Rabbi Yitzhak Batzri today (Sunday) issued a call to the masses of Israelis not to celebrate the end of the civil year, in celebrations to be marked this coming weekend.
In an article he posted on his Facebook account, he clarified that this is a Christian holiday, and that this threatens the Jewish image of the State of Israel.
"The New Year's celebrations that have become popular in recent years in the Land of Israel are a real threat to the Jewish image of the State of Israel. Under the guise of innocent celebrations in honor of the New Year, masses of Jews go out to celebrate Pope's New Year's Day," wrote Rabbi Batzri.

"Sylvester was the first Christian leader to receive the Roman authority to rule Christianity by force of arms. From the time of Christian Sylvester began a difficult period for the Jewish people in exile. A period that culminated in cruel persecutions and blood libels that lasted for more than a thousand years against the Jewish people."

"The first day of the civil year is also the day of the circumcision of the founder of the Christian religion that later in history led to the mass extermination of Jews.
"We must not adopt gentile customs for future generations. The role of our generation is to strengthen Jewish identity in the only country where we can and should feel safe and proud of our beautiful and complete religion. We do not need holidays imported from other religions," concluded Rabbi Batzri.
