The rookie policewoman from the New York Police Department who was documented last week giving the station commander a daring applause dance at a Christmas party, was first exposed in an appeal and by name, said she was embarrassed since the publication and found she had not returned to work since the video leaked.

26-year-old Vera McCauley, who said she always enjoys being a "party nail" and loves to "hang out", apologized to her boss and wife - and accused the media of sexism when she noted the video would not go viral and win headlines in the "If a Man Did It" headlines.

McCauley told TMZ: "I feel like it happened mostly because I'm a woman, because I was dressed the way I was, dressed and because I'm a rookie - otherwise things would have looked different. And it would have remained something internal - compared to the publicity it received as it did with me. "

She claims she did not know her supervisor was married and she is "really sorry" for the consequences of the dance - which prompted police chiefs to transfer the position of 44th District Deputy Commander Nick McGarry to subway tours.

"I want to apologize to the lieutenant's wife as well. I'm really sorry and I hope it did not do too much damage to their marriage or personal life," she said.

"I know it was hard. I saw the articles and saw the pictures in all the newspapers. It wasn't supposed to be like that. I really did not know about your marriage."

The officer's wife, Melissa McGarry, raged and cursed when she saw a New York Post journalist and photographer near their home and had to be held by her husband when asked about the article that appeared on the front page of the post showing pictures of the policewoman's video rubbing against her husband's lap.

Against McCauley herself, who began serving in the Bronx Police Department in February this year, no official disciplinary action was taken, and she said her commanders at the station "feel bad" about the incident and allowed her to work from home this week.

"I would love to come back. It's hard. I feel judgmental and ashamed - and those are feelings that should not be because of a case like this," she said through tears.

"I think I should not be judged because of a dance I did when I was not in the role or in uniform. It was supposed to be fun, just for the 'laughs' and I feel like I completely ruined his image as a deputy, as a boss," McCauley says in the video.

While she said she "does not remember" what exactly happened that led to the daring dance, McCauley said that people around her told her, "You will not dare to do this," so she took on the challenge.

Watch her apologize and tell what she's going through

"I grabbed the lieutenant, seated him, and gave him an apadence that is seen all over the world now. I'm not sure what happened after that," she said.

McCauley also said that her co-workers support her and believe the video "went out of proportion" and that the whole story "got out of control so quickly."

She says she really wants to go back to work, but she has worries: "Now my name is out there, my pictures have been published. I feel that now everywhere I go people will know - oh it's the one who did the lapdance. Who I am at work and who I am in private life are two people "I can still patrol and work as a policewoman on the streets like I once did. I think I should not be judged just because of a dance I did when I was not on duty or in uniform."
