Under the slogan (the tree is the lung of life), the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform will hold a central celebration of the 70th Tree Day next Thursday at the Al-Juwairat site in the Qudsaya area in Damascus countryside.
The Director of Forestry at the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Ali Thabet Bin, told SANA that this year’s celebration will be held on an area of about 7.5 hectares, where 4,500 diverse forest trees will be planted including fruit pine, Lebanese cedar and oak in accordance with the environmental, climatic and land conditions of the region.
Thabet pointed out that the celebration is not limited to just participating in planting trees and planting them in the permanent land, but rather continuing to follow up, care for and protect them from abusers and all the encroachments that may affect them and provide what is necessary to ensure their success to be the nucleus of a future forest that contributes to increasing the area of green spaces and the restoration of forests natural surroundings.
Thabet explained that the ministry seeks to devote the concept of sustainability in planting forest trees, which contributes to supporting the national economy and food security by promoting biodiversity, calling on all segments of society to contribute to this celebration so that planting forest trees becomes a culture and a behavior.
