The neurologist Ahmad-Mujtaba Mostakiem vaccinated 800 people over Christmas in an 81-hour “marathon” with his team - day and night.

Duisburg - The neurologist Ahmad-Mujtaba Mostakiem started a very special corona vaccination offer in Duisburg over Christmas: the doctor and colleagues vaccinated for 81 hours since Christmas morning in a three-shift system day and night.

The whole thing was straightforward without prior registration.

Word of the action got around to the neighboring country, so that even one or the other vaccine-willing came from the Netherlands.

Vaccination marathon in Duisburg "complete success"

On Monday evening, the vaccination marathon in Duisburg came to an end after 81 hours and a total of 800 vaccinations. On average, there were around ten people who wanted to be vaccinated every hour. The initiator of the action, the doctor Ahmad-Mujtaba Mostakiem, speaks of a "complete success", as the German Press Agency (dpa) reports. In the end, he ran out of Biontech vaccine, the doctor said.

"90 percent of the people came who had not yet managed to get vaccinated due to lack of time because of their job or studies," said the neurologist, describing the audience of his campaign. Some of the people thanked them for the opportunity with pralines, chocolate, sparkling wine and fruit baskets. Around one in eight of Mostakiem's guests was vaccinated for the first time, and around 100 first vaccinations took part in the campaign. "The rate was significantly higher than usual," said the doctor.

“Especially in the evenings, people come in groups.

These are people who were in contact with those who were vaccinated here.

They recommended us to others ”, Mostakiem explained the success of his campaign with first-time vaccinations to

.

Many families meet at Christmas.

If unvaccinated people are persuaded to vaccinate, they can come by right away - without registering, the doctor explained his low-threshold vaccination offer.

The vaccination marathon gets around as far as the Netherlands - but not everyone can take part

The doctor and his team invited to the vaccination marathon in the premises of a hotel at Duisburg main station. Word of the action even got around as far as the neighboring country, the Netherlands. But not everyone who came was allowed to be vaccinated. “I am only allowed to vaccinate Dutch people who are resident in Germany or who have health insurance in Germany. I had to make that clear in an interview with Dutch television, ”said Mostakiem. This had been communicated incorrectly in the run-up to the Netherlands, so that many people who wanted to be vaccinated had to leave without a "spade".

If you want to go on a skiing holiday from the Netherlands, for example, you currently need three stitches and an additional PCR test to enter Austria.

However, the booster vaccination in the Netherlands is currently primarily intended for older people.
