District - Corona does not stop at the Miesbach district council.

In the most recent meeting in the Seeforum Rottach-Egern there were clear words for compulsory vaccination.

The 7-day incidence in the Miesbach district has now declined, but the situation in the intensive care unit in the Agatharied hospital remains extremely critical.

Severin Eichenseher, head of the social, youth and health department at the district administration, reported this to the district council in its most recent meeting.

At the beginning of the week, the maximum of six ventilated patients had been exhausted, he said.

The department head looked at the development of the corona pandemic in the Miesbach district, the burden on employees in the health department and the efforts made in the fight against the corona virus.

Since the peak in mid-November with a 7-day incidence of 1337.9 and 243 positive results on four days, the numbers have been going down.

Concern about Omicron

But: "We are in the fourth wave", Eichenseher is certain, and he reassures us that local care facilities are hardly affected.

His goal was to get ahead of the wave, i.e. to be able to forecast developments and thus be prepared.

His wish: "The return to normal."

Ursula Janssen (Greens) made it clear in emphatic words that this will be difficult in the near future, because while the fourth wave has not yet survived, a new virus variant is spreading.

"We have to expect that we have the next problem in January," said the doctor.

"Omikron is under the Christmas tree."

Requirement for mandatory vaccination

Janssen's demand was therefore clear: “Vaccinate and boost as quickly as possible.” She also appealed to the mayors and association representatives on the committee to use their positions and awareness and to do persuasive work.

It became even clearer: “The only thing that frees us from this mess is the compulsory vaccination, without it doesn't seem to work.” District Administrator Olaf von Löwis had already spoken out in favor of it.

50 percent loss due to Corona alone

In addition to the major health risks, Corona also causes enormous economic damage, not least at the Agatharied Hospital.

"50 percent of the future loss can be attributed to Corona alone," said Josef Lechner (CSU).

Without giving any figures, he announced a massive deficit, because on the one hand the costs of the fight against the virus are increasing enormously, on the other hand, income from predictable operations is falling.

Orthopedic interventions, for example, could not be carried out because clinic capacities have to be reserved for corona patients.

Lechner's appeal to the district council was therefore to continue to carry the losses through the district in the future.

“We have to keep our hospital in this form if we can,” he emphasized.

The pandemic shows just how important it is.
