Celebrate with a maximum of ten people, major events without spectators - the corona rules will also be tightened in North Rhine-Westphalia shortly before New Year's Eve.

Düsseldorf - A few days before the turn of the year, people in North Rhine-Westphalia have to be prepared for further corona requirements.

From Tuesday on, contacts in private and public life will also be restricted for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered.

Private indoor and outdoor get-togethers are then only allowed with a maximum of ten people - there is no limit to the number of households.

NRW is thus implementing the latest joint corona resolutions by the federal and state governments.

Children up to and including 13 years of age are exempt from the contact restrictions.

There are no personal restrictions within your own household.

But as soon as an unvaccinated person takes part, the stricter requirements apply again.

Then only two people from another household are allowed to participate.

NEW YEAR'S EVE: There won't be any big parties on New Year's Eve in North Rhine-Westphalia either.

On New Year's Eve, gatherings that go beyond the personal limits that apply from Tuesday are prohibited in public squares and streets.

The sale of firecrackers and fireworks on New Year's Eve is prohibited nationwide.

Clubs and discos are already closed in NRW.

Public dance events as well as private dance and disco parties are also prohibited.

EVENTS: From Tuesday, major events are only allowed without spectators.

At other events, the limits for spectators are lowered to a maximum of 750.

MASKING OBLIGATION: Due to concerns about the spread of the Omikron variant, masking and testing requirements in the leisure sector are also tightened.

The mouth and nose protection must now also be worn outdoors for gatherings of more than 750 people.

A medical mask may no longer be dispensed with when exercising a professional activity indoors or in vehicles, even if you are immunized and at a minimum distance of 1.5 meters.

From Tuesday, the mask requirement also applies to immunized persons in educational and cultural institutions, at trade fairs or family recreational trips - regardless of fixed seats or arrangements in a checkerboard pattern.

TEST OBLIGATION: Since masks cannot be worn for indoor sports, in swimming pools and for wellness offers, immunized persons there must now carry a current, negative rapid test certificate with them that is not older than 24 hours.

In addition, this 2G-plus regulation will in future apply to many other facilities and offers in North Rhine-Westphalia, including singing in a choir without a mask.

Employees who cannot wear a mask while working and who are not immunized - such as professional musicians with wind instruments - must provide evidence of a PCR test.

PENALTIES: Violations of the Infection Protection Act can be punished with fines of up to 25,000 euros - for example for violating the ban on firecrackers.

The updated Protection Ordinance will initially apply until January 12th.
