Many cities in Lower Saxony also want to protect their citizens from injuries and buildings from fires.

Göttingen, for example, is sticking to the rules of recent years: no fireworks and no New Year's Eve fireworks in the city within the inner city wall.

In addition, a minimum distance of 200 meters to hospitals, children's and old people's homes and churches must be maintained.

Fireworks are also prohibited in front of fire-endangered buildings such as half-timbered houses.

Cities such as Osterode, Northeim and Hann as well as Münden also take care of their own half-timbered houses. There are particularly many wooden and clay buildings in the historic old towns. The cities are very much endangered by fireworks, said Julia Hofmann, spokeswoman for the city of Osterode. Accordingly, New Year's Eve fireworks are also prohibited in the three inner cities.

There are also cities that have not yet made any regulations.

In Braunschweig, for example, a spokesman simply announced that no ban has yet been issued.

In Osnabrück, too, there are “no special rules at the moment,” said spokesman Sven Jürgensen.

But he emphasized: In addition to hospitals and old people's homes, firecrackers are already forbidden.

In addition, Jürgensen referred to Corona: "At the moment, however, it is not foreseeable how the pandemic will develop."

Even in the city-state of Hamburg, the matter is not yet completely clear, but it is likely that a firecracker ban will apply in certain places in Hamburg *.

Court overturned firecrackers ban 2020 in Lower Saxony

Last year, the state government of Lower Saxony tried to completely ban the sale, carrying and burning of fireworks through the Corona Ordinance.
