Built from a period estimated between 1180 and 1220, the church of Châtres has just been labeled Heritage of regional interest. The attract

It would house, under the altar of the Virgin Mary, the relics of Saint-Roch and Saint-Félix.

The latter was a bishop of Nantes and "a great figure of the Merovingian episcopate", according to Jacqueline Verdavainne.

Labeled Heritage of regional interest, the Saint-Antonin church, in Châtres, could even be named after the second bishop of Meaux, who lived in the 2nd - or, according to sources, 3rd century, according to this resident of the village since 1979. With her husband Guy they worked to maintain a religious life in the village of 800 inhabitants.

After having taught catechism for 12 years, they feel today that they have passed the hand, into good hands.

The bell baptized Antoinette was blessed in 1789!

As for the relics of Saint-Ayoul in Provins, which initiated the first pilgrimages and developed the reputation, in the Middle Ages, of the medieval city, we will not verify the veracity of this local history. But Saint-Antonin would shelter other "treasures": "There are a certain number of classified objects, including an 18th century mahogany pulpit, brought back from the islands by a sailor, and a table in Cordoba leather" from the same period, reports Jacqueline Verdavainne, who unearthed old documents from the town hall's cupboards, before transcribing them into contemporary French.

The construction of the church dates back to the 12th century, between 1180 and 1220. According to information from the Ile-de-France regional council, its physiognomy confirms this dating, through its entrance-porch and its buttresses. The sanctuary and the choir also present the characteristics of the 13th century architecture, with cross vault on ribs. As for the frame in the form of the hull of an overturned boat, it would have been built in the 16th century. “Its bell dates from 1782,” says La Châtriote. She is baptized Antoinette and was blessed in 1789! "

The municipality recently provided a small facelift to the church.

"We cleaned the facades, repainted the sacristy and put in place a whole lighting system to enhance it," says Herminia Benotmane, city councilor in charge of HR, finance and school.

The roof of the church being to be redone, the elected representative hopes to obtain subsidies thanks to the label awarded by the regional council.
