Ciudadanos (Cs) is not willing to give their vote to the PP candidate, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, to repeat as president of the Junta de Castilla y León.
A week after the announcement about the electoral advance in the community, which the popular leader justified by an alleged "lack of loyalty of his partners" in the Government, the candidate of Cs and former vice president of the Board, Francisco Igea, has affirmed this Monday that Mañueco will not be elected if it depends on Cs.
The elections have been set for next February 13.
“The objective of our policy is to change things, to continue with our policies, it is not to punish Mañueco. But what I am saying is that those who have lied to the citizens cannot preside over the community with our vote. I am not going to allow that ”, Igea assured in an interview with Efe Radio. "Whoever has caused this situation cannot escape unscathed (...) Citizens deserve another way of doing politics," the candidate reiterated afterwards at a press conference.
Ciudadanos rejects that the real reason behind the electoral advance was, as argued by the president, that the Arrimadas formation had agreed, "behind" the PP, the Community Budgets, stirring up the specter of the failed motion of censure in Murcia. “The only betrayal is that of the PP to the citizens. A man of little courage leads us to a campaign with the highest incidence of the pandemic ”, Igea responded in an interview with EL PAÍS last week.
The Permanent Committee of Citizens, for its part, has agreed on Monday the appointment of the former vice president of the Board as a candidate in the February elections without holding internal primaries, as reported by the party in a statement. The decision, taken at the request of the autonomous committee of Castilla y León, has subsequently been ratified in an extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee of training. The electoral regulations of Cs, approved last October, foresees that the party leadership can designate a candidate without primaries as long as exceptional circumstances concur. "In the case of Castilla y León, the surprise early electoral call in the worst circumstances derived from the Christmas holiday period and the expansion of the sixth wave of covid, does not allow to offer affiliates,if the internal electoral procedure is called, the adequate guarantees so that they can fully exercise their participation rights ”, Ciudadanos explains in their statement. Training therefore sees “extraordinary and urgent” reasons for making the decision. The party announces that "in the coming days" the names of the people who will head the lists for each constituency will be announced, reports
