They wanted to go on vacation in Austria - but 100 British vacationers fell victim to the new Corona rules.

They weren't allowed to enter.

Innsbruck / Munich - No skiing vacation for 100 Brits: Due to the new corona rules for entry from virus variant areas, around 100 vacationers from the United Kingdom have been refused entry to the Austrian ski region Tyrol.

As the police in Innsbruck announced on Monday, the travelers could not show any negative PCR tests or booster vaccinations when they arrived at the city's airport on Sunday.

Entry ban for British vacationers in Tyrol: Most flew back immediately

So they could not enter - most of the vacationers flew back immediately, according to the police. Since Saturday there have been tightened entry rules for guests from the important countries of origin Great Britain and the Netherlands as well as Denmark and Norway. Tourists from these four countries affected by the Omikron variant are only allowed into the country with a test and third-party vaccination - otherwise they have to be in quarantine. Austria's tourism and gastronomy industry is also plagued by an early curfew that came into effect on Monday.

Omikron is also rampant in Austria.

Because of the impending omicron wave, the government decided last week that restaurants should close at 10 p.m. instead of the previous 11 p.m.

The government also canceled the planned lifting of the curfew on New Year's Eve.

After a three-week lockdown in November and December, the seven-day incidence in Austria recently fell to around 170.

However, experts expect another increase soon due to the more contagious Omikron variant.

Corona turns two.

How much longer will the virus accompany us?

How quickly does the endemic come - or do vaccinations and new waves become a permanent loop?

That's how the experts see it.
