"A serious episode has marred these days of celebration in Montemurlo (Prato). Unknown people have hung the tree of all the Montemurlesi, a dozen balls with Nazi effigies and the image of Adolf Hitler with a red heart ".
This is what you can read on the facebook profile of the Municipality of Montemurlo (Prato).
"This is a very serious episode that offends the values on which our Republic and our democracy was born", said Mayor Simone Calamai, who immediately alerted the municipal police, who intervened to remove the offensive decorations.
It is - continued Mayor Calamai - of "a gesture that outrages all those who died for the values of freedom and peace and who fought to give us the Constitution and freedom. This is not a stunt, I am deeply indignant. . Using Hitler's images as decorations for the Christmas tree is an offense to our whole community, gathered in this symbol of joy and brotherhood for the holidays. The investigations by the municipal police have already begun and we will soon be able to identify the responsible ".
The town hall and the whole area are monitored by numerous cameras.
Montemurlo was a land of partisans and one of the centers of the Prato Resistance against German occupation and Nazi-fascism.
