Schlecker's comeback in Germany: Investor explains goals and range

The prominent Schlecker brand should soon make its comeback in Germany.
The range should be more extensive and go far beyond that of a drugstore.

In many villages and towns in Germany, they have long and reliably been an integral part of the retail landscape: the former branches of the Schlecker drugstore chain.
At the beginning of 2012, however, sole owner Anton Schlecker had to file for bankruptcy.
His offer was no longer up-to-date, it was said, the customers came less and less.
Now the Schlecker brand is about to experience its revival.

Tyrolean holding company kitzVenture GmbH wants to revive the brand and reactivate it with a greatly expanded range.

Patrick Landrock, founder of the company from Kitzbühel, Austria, secured the Schlecker brand a few years ago.
"In the future, Schlecker will no longer be a pure drugstore, but will also be heavily involved in everyday products such as groceries, office and business supplies and hardware stores," Landrock is quoted in the report.
In addition, there should be "rental commerce" for entertainment and household appliances.
The brand launch should already be in the coming months, it continues.
The new Schlecker also wants to fully rely on digitization.

On the other hand, it is still unclear whether the new company will be based in Austria or Germany, where the previous company headquarters was in the Swabian town of Ehingen (Donau) near Ulm.
After the opening of insolvency proceedings, all Schlecker branches closed in June 2012.
As a result, around 36,000 employees lost their jobs in Germany alone.
