Two young men were stuck on the Hochstaufen-Jagersteig on Boxing Day.

They didn't dare to go any further in the snow and ice - and called the emergency number.

Bad Reichenhall - 13 rescue workers * Bad Reichenhall, Freilassing and Teisendorf-Anger rescued two uninjured 23-year-old men from Rosenheim from Hochstaufen-Jagersteig on December 26th.

Due to the thick fog, no helicopter * was able to reach the deployment site, which was 1470 meters above sea level.

This is reported by the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) district association Berchtesgadener Land.

Hochstaufen-Jagersteig: Duo from Rosenheim can neither go forward nor back

"The duo was mentally blocked and did not dare to go forward or backward due to snow and ice in the ascent around 20 minutes on foot above the iron ladder (Werner-Riedel-Brücke) and therefore made an emergency call at around 12.40", says the BRK report .

For the search and rescue, the head of operations first requested a helicopter.

Due to the thick fog, “Christoph 14” was initially only able to fly over a wide curve west of the station at the Traunstein Clinic in the direction of Achental.

The crew then tried to get to the Reichenhaller Saalachtal via detours, but ultimately had to stop and turn around because of the poor visibility.

The crews of the emergency helicopter "Christophorus 6" from Salzburg and "Heli 1" from Waidring also had no chance of getting to Staufen.

Hochstaufen-Jagersteig: Rosenheim duo rescued by mountain rescue service

Meanwhile, the mountain rescue service had already approached via the Padinger Alm and Pfarrerboden and climbed up to the deployment site with extensive equipment in three groups via the Buchmahd.

"The rescuers then found the duo at an altitude of 1,470 meters and brought them back down to the valley safely, all of them arriving at the Padinger Alm around 5 p.m. in the last light of day," concludes.
