Ten years of the city: Olching has grown the most

No municipality in the district has grown as much in the past ten years: In Olching, the population has exploded, primarily due to the Schwaigfeld development.

Since the pandemic, however, this trend has been reversed: more people moved away than they came in.

The comparison: one city, the other not

Ten years ago Olching and Puchheim became a town, Gröbenzell didn't want to.

But what does that actually mean in numbers?

A comparison between the eastern municipalities (Olching, Puchheim, Gröbenzell and Eichenau) at the end of the anniversary year.

Olching

- Today the city with 27,879 inhabitants has about eleven percent more than in 2011. The development of Graßlfing (Schwaigfeld) is primarily responsible for this.

44.5 percent more people live there today than ten years ago.

In the other parts of the city growth was more moderate: Olching recorded a plus of 7.1 percent, Geiselbullach of 5.4 percent, Esting of 5 percent and Neu-Esting of 1.6 percent.

This year and last year, however, population growth stalled.

The reason for this, however, is not an above-average number of deaths due to the pandemic.

In fact, in 2020 and 2021, for the first time in a long time, more people moved away (4310) than settled in Olching (3967).

A lot has happened, especially among the youngest residents, since the city elevation.

Olching expanded the support options considerably.

Today there are 342 crèches, 33 day care and 930 kindergarten places.

The number of daycare places grew by 42.2 percent by 2020, with 46.2 percent more children bustling around in the facilities than ten years ago.

1739 residents are under six years old.

This is 17.7 percent more than in 2011.

The group of the very old (older than 80 years) is growing significantly faster.

It has almost doubled and now makes up 6.5 percent of the population.

In addition, around a fifth of Olching residents have already celebrated their 65th birthday.

At the time of the Tagblatt research, three residents had already reached the three-digit age, in 2011 it was only one.

Further comparisons clearly indicate more urban life in Olching.

The number of foreigners, excluding Germans with foreign roots, doubled to 4213. They make up 15.1 percent of the total population.

The proportion of settlement and traffic areas in the municipal area already had urban dimensions in 2011.

Nevertheless, it grew by a further almost four percent to 30.2 by 2020 - and the trend is rising.

In the district, the average is 18.9 percent.

In Olching there has been a lot of building work since 2011.

The city now has ten percent more apartments.

Above all, multi-family houses with three or more apartments were built.

The financial strength of the municipality made an even steeper development.

The current budget volume (72.5 million euros) exceeds the comparison result from 2011 by more than 50 percent.

The income tax share is expected to be around 54 percent above the 14.4 million euros from then.

The trade tax income is expected to amount to eleven million euros this year, which is almost two and a half times as high.

This is likely to be a result of the fact that the number of employees subject to social security contributions has increased by 46.7 percent.

The majority is employed in trade and hospitality (43 percent) or other service sectors (36 percent).

Most of the people from Olching, however, commute to another municipality to work - mostly to Munich.
