- The city of Freising issued a statement twice when drawing up a noise action plan for Munich Airport: the first time in summer 2020, the second time in summer 2021. Now the noise action plan is ready and will be laid out (see “Good to know”) ) - but without the blessing of the city of Freising: Because two very essential points were not taken into account from the city's point of view, "the city has not established behavior", as the rejection is called in official German.

This formulation was the core sentence of a letter to the government of Upper Bavaria, which was approved in the November planning committee.

Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher had signed the paper during the committee meeting.

Not taken into account: third runway and night flight ban

At the time, Beate Metz from the city's environmental department explained that the municipality's suggestions and objections were largely taken into account and incorporated into the noise action plan, but from the city's point of view, “the most important measures for a clear, long-term and sustainable noise reduction are not sufficient has been taken into account ".

This meant, on the one hand, the demand put forward by almost all the district municipalities involved to forego the construction of the third runway.

On the other hand, the demand for a night flight ban between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. is not taken into account in the noise action plan, but the regulation that has been in force since 2001 is adhered to.

This, according to the argument of the city of Freising in the statement to the government, has "harmful effects on the population".

Exactly these two points were also cited in the letter as justification for the rejection of the noise action plan by the city, which was sent to the government in Munich as Freising's statement.

Good to know

• The government of Upper Bavaria has drawn up the noise action plan for the airport with the participation of the public and the affected communities.

• The plan shows steps that have already been taken to reduce aircraft noise in the vicinity of the airport and indicate further measures for the future.

  With this noise action plan, the government is implementing the EU directive on the assessment and control of environmental noise for Munich Airport.

• The noise action plan for the airport with the evaluation of the feedback from the participation process is now published on the website of the government of Upper Bavaria (www.regierung.oberbayern.de).

• In addition, the noise action plan is available for inspection by the government of Upper Bavaria (Maximilianstrasse 39, 80 538 Munich) up to and including January 31, 2022.

• Due to the corona pandemic, however, the government of Upper Bavaria asks citizens to refrain from personal visits as far as possible and to view the plan online.
