Anyone who lives in Bavaria on the border with Austria or the Czech Republic and occasionally drives over there to refuel or shop must now be prepared for a tightening of the rules.

Update from December 26th, 8:26 pm:

After Austria has already tightened its entry rules (see first report), the Czech Republic is now following. From Monday (December 27th) people will need a negative PCR test to enter the Czech Republic. This also applies to those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered. Only those who have already received a booster vaccination - as well as unvaccinated children under the age of twelve - are exempt from the obligation to test. The second vaccination is still sufficient for young people up to the age of 18.

Also excluded are people who spend less than 24 hours in the Czech Republic as part of the “small border traffic”.

But from Thursday (December 30th) to Saturday (January 1st) the small border traffic will be suspended.

The Czech government decided this shortly before Christmas Eve, reports the BR.

This is to prevent unvaccinated people from traveling from Bavaria to the Czech Republic to celebrate New Year's Eve there.

Bavarian tank tourists watch out: the tightening of rules at the border - the ministry confirms it

First report from December 22nd:

Vienna - Austria's new corona hurdles when entering the country also apply to small border traffic from Bavaria - and thus also to tank tourists.

The Ministry of Health in Vienna confirmed that anyone who wants to go from the Free State to the neighboring country to the south to refuel or buy cheap fuel has to be able to show a third corona vaccination since this week.

Alternatively, a negative PCR test can be presented.

Unlike in Bavaria, the booster vaccination applies from the day of the third injection.

Stricter rule at the Bavarian border: You need a booster vaccination for shopping in Austria

This new regulation will be checked at the borders with random samples, said the state governments in Upper Austria and Tyrol.

A spokesman in Innsbruck said a spokesman in Innsbruck said that immigrants were expected to comply with the regulations on their own initiative.

Anyone who does not have the necessary Corona certificates at the border will be rejected.

According to the Ministry, there are exceptions for people who regularly drive across the border at least once a month to work, go to school, study or visit family or partners.

These commuters can either be vaccinated, recovered or tested (3G).

There are also special rules for pregnant women, children and people who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons.

In the Czech Republic, convalescent and vaccinated persons arriving from Germany do not need an additional PCR test, but must fill out an online registration form before entering the country.

This also applies to short visits such as shopping or refueling.
