At least five people were killed and three injured Monday in multiple shootings across Denver and Lakewood, Colorado.
The attacker is among those killed, authorities said.
Among the injured is a Lakewood police officer

His health status and the identity of the other victims are unknown.
"We have every reason to believe that several incidents in Denver were related, which occurred prior to our Lakewood incidents," Lakewood Police spokesman John Romero tweeted Monday night.
Authorities believe the suspect was responsible for four shootings in the city of Denver and then fled to Lakewood, where he was killed in a confrontation with police near a Hyatt hotel.
Two people died and one more was shot and wounded after the suspect shot them at a Denver intersection.
Then there were two other shootings in the city in which a third person was killed.
When police intercepted the man, a fourth shooting broke out in Denver in which the suspect managed to flee to Lakewood without causing more injuries or deaths.

There, another shooting occurred at 1500 Kipling Avenue, where another person died around 6:00 pm.
Lakewood agents found the suspect's vehicle near the Belmar Mall and tried to stop him.
Then another shootout broke out.
The suspect managed to flee again, but this time he was on foot and went to several establishments in the area, where he threatened people with a gun.

He then entered a Hyatt hotel and shot one of the employees

The victim was taken to hospital and his state of health is unknown.
Finally, the police managed to catch up with him again and another shooting broke out, in which one of the officers was wounded.
The officer was taken to a hospital and is undergoing emergency surgery, authorities said.
The suspect was killed during the shootout with the police.
But it is still unknown if a Lakewood agent killed him, Romero said.
