Bitter end to a sweet tradition: after 25 years, the Münchner Freiheit café on Rotkreuzplatz has to close.
This is not due to Corona, says operator Charly Eisenrieder, but to several rent increases recently.
Munich - Charly Eisenrieder appears punctually at Rotkreuzplatz at 12 noon. He wears the typical baker's jacket over his shirt - all in white. So he poses in front of the branch of the Café Münchner Freiheit, which has been operated there for 25 years. It will be one of the last photos to be taken on site. Because the branch will no longer exist from January 9th.

We are closing the branch on Rotkreuzplatz after 25 years, ”says Charly Eisenrieder.

Eisenrieder says: “The closure is not necessarily due to Corona, but to the high rent.
In the last five to six years we had several increases and at some point the point had come where you have to honestly say: It is not possible to work in an economically profitable way - we can no longer afford it. "

"Of course, we didn't make this decision easy for ourselves and thought about this step for a long time," says Eisenrieder.
“But we work purely by hand without major mechanization.
The cost pressure then just became too great. "
