No fireworks sale and firework bans - there are many indications in the second pandemic year of a quieter New Year's Eve.
However, the fire brigade and police expect more operations.
Berlin - Notwithstanding a ban on firecrackers, the Berlin fire brigade and police are expecting many operations again on New Year's Eve. As in previous years, the fire brigade wants to declare the state of emergency New Year's Eve again on the last day of the year from 7 p.m., as the fire brigade announced on Tuesday. Accordingly, the number of staff will be increased at the fire stations and in the control center, among other things. On New Year's Eve 2020 there were more than 860 missions between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. alone. Otherwise, the average daily use is 1,400 operations.
A total of almost 1,400 workers are to be deployed: more than 700 workers from the professional fire brigade, over 530 volunteers from 59 volunteer fire brigades and almost 100 additional workers from the Federal Armed Forces, the technical relief organization and the aid organizations. Over 340 vehicles are occupied. A spokesman said the number of staff will almost triple compared to normal daily operations.
The Berlin police want to enforce the ban on firecrackers on New Year's Eve with additional forces.
"The turn of the year 2021/2022 is also this time under the sign of Corona and will demand the Berlin police again at the end of the year in particular," said the authority on Tuesday.
Accordingly, the police want to be on the move throughout the city.
The exact number of additional workers was not initially given.
Last year, 2900 additional workers were deployed, including 600 police officers from other federal states.
