The Indonesian health department said on December 28 that a local case of the Omicron variant of the new coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) has occurred in the country. A man from North Sumatra came to Jakarta and was later diagnosed.
He has no record of traveling abroad and contacting international travelers, making him the first local case of Omicron in Indonesia.
A spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Health said at a press conference on the 28th that the 37-year-old patient in the case is currently in isolation in a Jakarta hospital.
He is from Medan and had been to a restaurant in Jakarta earlier in December.
