Although they have recorded great losses due to the corona pandemic, many retailers in Nuremberg are optimistic.

That was the result of a survey in the summer.

Nuremberg - The corona-related lockdowns led to large losses for many retailers.

Some even had to close - only a few benefited from it.

In the summer of 2021, Commerzbank asked retailers across Germany how they coped with the crisis and what they expect in the future.

100 entrepreneurs from Nuremberg were among the retailers, as

Nuremberg: Despite everything, optimistic!

"The retailers in the metropolitan region have not lost their optimism," sums up Wolfgang Bauer, member of the management team at Commerzbank Nordbayern.

In terms of the rather sobering facts, a surprising conclusion.

After all, 21 percent of entrepreneurs stated that they had run into existential problems as a result of Corona.

Two thirds of them suffered major losses, but only a few closed.

Because almost half could fall back on their own money reserves.

Eleven percent had to apply for a loan from the bank.

Bauer fears that if it comes to another closure, the reserves will slowly run out.

"If we were to repeat the survey today, the results would be different," he is certain.

Nuremberg: creativity and innovation in demand

In order to still be able to sell their goods in lockdown, retailers had to be creative and open to innovations in terms of digitization.

But just under 20 percent invested money in building a website or app.

About 18 percent tried to reach their customers through social media.

So far, despite the situation, only a few companies have had to cut jobs.

Only six percent of the (surveyed?) Companies had to lay off people for operational reasons, 39 percent opted for short-time work.

This year's Christmas business went badly for the Franconian shopkeepers due to the 2G regulation.

The trade association speaks of a "disaster".
