Justice Minister Gideon Saar announced today (Tuesday) the reopening of the list of candidates for the Supreme Court.

This, after attempts to reach a "deal" among committee members on the appointment of four of the 24 candidates failed at the last minute, following the Bar Association's insistence on appointing a judge from the private sector.

Among the names that emerged following the opening of the list were Adv. Yechiel Kasher from the David Tadmor firm, Adv. Ofer Bartel, who represented Shula Zaken, and Adv. Zvika Bar-Natan, senior partner and head of the commercial and international litigation department at the Goldfarb-Seligman firm. Until next Thursday.

The Judicial Selection Committee consists of nine government and Knesset representatives, Supreme Court representatives and the Bar Association.

To appoint a judge to the Supreme Court, a majority of seven judges is required.

Since the committee is supposed to appoint four new judges to the Supreme Court, apparently an agreed deal can be reached, with each camp receiving its preferred representative.

In the previous tin, committee members reached agreements on three candidates: Tel Aviv District Court Judge Khaled Kabov, the only Arab judge on the list, is considered an agreed-upon candidate to replace Judge George Kara on the standard of the Supreme Court Arab judge. Tel Aviv District Court Judge Ruth Ronen is considered the preferred candidate for Supreme Court President Esther Hayut, although former Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked vetoed it during her tenure as committee chairman because Ronen's husband contributed to the new fund in Israel. The committee has three right-wing members. Saar, Shaked and MK Simcha Rotman, and the Jerusalem District Court judge revealed Kanfei-Steinitz, the wife of MK Yuval Steinitz, who is considered a conservative candidate.

The dispute between the committee members concerned the fourth judge, with the Bar Association demanding that he come from the private sector, unlike the other three candidates who currently serve as district judges.

The bureau submitted two candidates on its behalf, Adv. Yaakov Sharvit of Herzog Fox Ne'eman, who was perceived as a leftist, and Adv. Nati Simchoni, who was perceived by the committee members as a right-wing man, close to Israel Hayom editor Boaz Bismuth and Yaakov Bardugo.

After the previous deal fell through, Saar appointed Judge Shaul Bribe as acting judge for six months to the Supreme Court, which currently lacks two justices.

Some of the candidates for the Supreme Court are also candidates for adjudication in the district courts, such as Adv. Sharvit, Adv. And the Custodian General, Sigal Yaakovi, former Director General of the Ministry of Justice.
