Twenty years later, three in four French people support the euro

The banknotes and coins of the European currency became established in everyday life on January 1, 2002. The French adopted them with less fervor than their neighbors.


"I'm talking about a franc that those under 20 cannot know", one

Today, 16 million young French people have only known euro banknotes and coins.

The others, especially those over 30 years old, remember the enthusiasm, skepticism, even anxiety that inhabited them at the end of December 2001. The franc, after seven centuries of existence, two of which were the only one the nation's legal monetary unit, then bowed out.
