"Sense of Chaos": Shai Nitzan began his work at the National Library Israel today

2021-12-29T22:04:25.508Z

The new rector held a meeting with the employees, in which he dismissed criticism of his appointment • A source in the library: "He talked about Netanyahu's files, it is strange that he chats about it publicly" • One of the employees: "He starts from scratch"

Former State Attorney Shai Nitzan began his work as rector of the National Library, and there is already a meeting with senior members of the library, in which he expressed contempt for criticism of his appointment and even commented extensively on Netanyahu's files.

Nitzan met with senior directors of the National Library, along with the library's chairman of the board, David Bloomberg. , And that his appointment to the post is a "departure of the library on a new path."

It should be noted that the appointment of Nitzan to the position, and the controversy that the appointment provoked among many in the library over the fact that he lacks any professional background of managing a library or engaging in the field that prepares him for the position, were published about a month ago in Israel Today.

"Struggles await him"

"Israel Today" learned that during the meeting, Nitzan referred in disapproval to the criticism voiced about his appointment to the position, despite the lack of appropriate professional background, and even to the criticism that referred to the manner in which candidates for the position were located.

Nitzan told those present that the criticism was heard only "in unimportant media such as 'Besheva' and the 'Mida' website", and that "it is not as effective as on Channel 12 or 13."

Needless to say, the publication in "Israel Today", as well as the continuation of the revelations about the affair brought by Ayala Hasson on Channel 13, were not mentioned by him.

In addition, according to a source in the library, "a significant portion of the conversation with the workers was devoted by Nitzan to Netanyahu's legal matters."

The same source says that "many of us felt that as a former state attorney who has public responsibility, and while the trial is going on, Nitzan should not be chatting publicly about cases he has dealt with."

"It seems that Nitzan is quick to grasp - but he has a lot more to learn," says another source in the library. "He really starts from scratch. "Nitzan is struggling with everyone here, who is on the sidelines for fear of the future. According to the structure we are talking about, most of the wings in the library will not be subordinate to Nitzan, including finance and computing, but there is already one wing that should move to Nitzan's authority.

A junior employee at the library, who has been employed there for many years, says that like most of his colleagues, he has no idea what Nitzan's powers are at the institution: "The fog in the matter is deliberate, no one explains anything to the employees."

The National Library responded: "The allegations and complaints received by us from the newspaper are incorrect and we propose to accept anonymous rumors and gossip with a limited guarantee."
