Ronen Oz perished in the tragic incident while on vacation with his wife and two children who were seriously injured • The lighter, Muhammad Jabari, admitted that the background was in fact a financial dispute with the owners of the place •

The Jerusalem District Court today (Wednesday) convicted Muhammad Jabari of manslaughter following the arson of a hotel in Jerusalem in July 2018. In a fire that broke out following the arson, Ronen Oz, 45, perished when his wife and two children were seriously injured.

The prosecution sought to convict him of murder in aggravated circumstances but their request was denied.

As you may recall, the family members came with their 10- and 14-year-old natives to spend a weekend in Jerusalem on the occasion of the birthday of one of the children, at the "Jaffa 60" apartment hotel.

Jabari, a resident of East Jerusalem, confessed to the acts along with a former employee of the place and a friend who assisted him in the act.

He said he did so due to a financial dispute with the owners of the place.

The State Attorney's Office stated: "In the summer of 2018, at the height of the tourist season, a hotel was set on fire in Jerusalem at midnight, causing the tragic death of the late Ronen Oz and the injury of his family and other guests. The defendants, former employees of the place, thereby sought revenge on whoever was their employer and caused the heavy disaster. The indictment charged the defendants with conspiracy to commit murder, while committing another offense in light of the indifference they displayed to harming guests and their lives. The court convicted the defendants of the offense of manslaughter and causing death by negligence. We will study the verdict in depth and prepare for the sentencing arguments phase accordingly. "

Advocate David Barhum, who represented the other defendant in the case on behalf of the Public Defender's Office, commented on the conviction: "This is a serious incident whose results were not known in advance.

The woman's part in the incident was very limited and we claim from the outset there was no room to accuse her of murder, certainly given the difficult circumstances of her life.

We welcome the court's decision, which accepted our claims, acquitted the defendant of murder and convicted her of offenses at the lower threshold. "
