Today, the Directorate of Agriculture in As-Suwayda launched a afforestation campaign to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Tree Day, within forested lands in the vicinity of the Rum Dam site, which were subjected to encroachments on trees.
The campaign, which was held under the slogan (the tree is the lung of life), with the participation of civil and official activities, organizations, unions and children, includes planting about 5 hectares of about 5,000 plants of cypress, pine, oak, and azedracht.
The Director of Agriculture in As-Suwayda, Ayham Hamed, indicated in a statement to SANA reporter that the campaign is added to the afforestation plan that the directorate is working on implementing for this season, which amounts to about 1,150 dunums and includes sites in Hashish Barika, Al-Qurayya and Al-Assad Forest, which contributes to increasing green areas.
For his part, the head of the Forestry Department at the Directorate of Agriculture, Engineer Anas Abu Fakher, said in a similar statement that the campaign began today with 1,500 plants, to continue within the site in line with the continued implementation of the afforestation plan, which has, to date, reached an area estimated at 120 dunums at the Al-Assad Forest site.
The event was attended by the Governor of As-Suwayda, Namir Habib Makhlouf, the head of the Provincial Council, Rasmi Al-Aysami, and a number of stakeholders.
