Despite the spread of the Omikron variant, cruise trips are possible.
Due to corona outbreaks, however, some of them were turned away at ports.
In recent months, the cruise lines have developed strict hygiene concepts to enable safe travel during the corona pandemic.
On some ships there is even a 1G rule - so only vaccinated passengers are allowed on board.
Nevertheless, corona outbreaks have occurred on over 60 ships, as the US health authority CDC reported over the Christmas holidays.
These were then under close observation - the infected people had to go into isolation.
As the
Washington Post
reported, some ships were turned away at the ports in the Caribbean.

“We're sailing on a petri dish,” said a 34-year-old passenger who was on the “Carnival Freedom”, according to the

. Nevertheless, there were apparently corona cases on board, which led to the ship being turned away from the Caribbean islands of Aruba and Bonaire. “I feel like I've just spent my last week on a superspreader event.” As the shipping company explained, “A small number of people who were infected on board the ship 'Freedom' were caught by the other passengers and isolated from the crew ”. How many people actually became infected, however, was not disclosed. Therefore, many passengers on board spent the Christmas holidays avoiding public areas on the ship, as it is said. On Sunday all guests were finally allowed to disembark at the port of Miami. The next trip should take place as planned.

at some ports, the shipping company said: "The rapid spread of the Omikron variant can lead to some authorities in the destination countries perceiving even a small number of cases as a threat, even if they are dealt with with our strict protocols", says it in the company's statement.
"Some destinations have limited medical resources and focus on managing their own local response to the variant."
The company would work closely with the CDC and local health authorities.
