Minister Zeev Elkin (New Hope) this morning (Wednesday) criticized the words of Chief Rabbi of Israel David Lau, who threatened not to convert immigrants from Ethiopia if the conversion plan was not stopped, saying that "I can not understand a position of extortion towards the government."
"I think saying 'I will not do something I know I should do if the government takes such and such actions' is a wrong approach," Elkin added.
"The conversion of immigrants from Ethiopia should be treated as it has been treated all along. The issue of conversion, what is the debate about? Mayors have been converting for decades in Israel, it is not that Minister Kahana offers something that has never happened."

"I would not invite anyone to my house who pays salaries to Israeli murderers and wants to put senior IDF prisoners in The Hague, including the host himself. It is delusional, Abu Mazen is financing a campaign in The Hague to put Ganz behind bars because he sees Bo is a war criminal during his time as chief of staff.
"I would not invite such a person to my home," he said. The
minister added that "contacts between senior Israeli and Palestinian officials were constant. Netanyahu hosted Abu Mazen in Balfour.
