A man is seriously injured in an explosion in Frankfurt am Main.
How the accident came about is still open.
Rail traffic came to a standstill at times.
Frankfurt - There was an explosion at the Südbahnhof in Frankfurt am Main on Wednesday (December 29).
According to the Frankfurt police, "a man was seriously injured".
A police spokesman told

that a gas cartridge or spray can could have exploded.
The investigation of the explosion site did not corroborate the suspicion that a bomb could have caused the explosion, he said.
The investigations by the Frankfurt police are still ongoing.

The explosion victim, who, according to the police, may have handled the gas cartridge, had to be taken to a hospital in Offenbach.
The injured person is currently being treated there as an inpatient.
Since the victim could not be contacted for the time being, his personal details have not yet been found.
The officials initially did not provide any information about the man's further health.

Police officers on site had found out that the explosion had occurred in front of a house, the alleged source of the explosion was a garbage can parked there.

He even claims to have heard "two explosions".
The man injured in the incident was completely unknown to him, said the boss of the bike shop.
Immediately after the explosion, the Rhein-Main transport association announced that the Südbahnhof would be closed until further notice.
According to the Federal Police, however, there was no danger to rail traffic or travelers at any time.
Therefore, the full closure, which existed from 11.30 a.m. to 11.48 a.m., was quickly lifted again.
The police operation and the associated closure of the Südbahnhof resulted in train cancellations and delays on several railway lines.
