Government of Peru decrees closure of beaches on December 31 and January 1

Beaches, lagoons and rivers in Peru will be closed on December 31 and January 1, 2022 to contain the advance of the covid-19 pandemic.

The government of Peru announced this Wednesday that they will close access to the country's beaches, lagoons and rivers on December 31 and January 1, 2022 to contain the advance of the covid-19 pandemic.

In a press conference, the Minister of Health Hernando Cevallos explained that the delta variant is the one that predominates within the causes of covid-19 although the presence of the omicron has been increasing with 116 identified cases, the vast majority of them in Lima.

He added that the vaccination brigades work continuously to reach the goal of 80% of the population inoculated with the two doses.

As of Tuesday, the Ministry of Health confirmed 2,283,474 cases of covid-19 and 202,584 deaths associated with the disease.
