I believe many people will agree that the environment and ecology are closely related to each of us, because human behavior will always consume the earth's resources and leave ecological footprints at the same time.
According to the "Hong Kong Ecological Footprint Report" issued by the Hong Kong Branch of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Hong Kong's per capita ecological footprint has been among the top three in the Asia-Pacific region for many years, and its consumption of natural resources has far exceeded the actual biocapacity of Hong Kong. It means that the activities of Hong Kong people have put tremendous pressure on the ecosystem and biodiversity.
Hong Kong's "ecological deficit" has not improved for many years. What is wrong with "environmental education"?
Li Weiyan, Senior Conservation Officer (Ecological Footprint) of WWF Hong Kong Branch, pointed out: "The consumption habits of daily users account for 76% of Hong Kong’s overall ecological footprint, with food accounting for the largest share (21%), followed by personal transportation (11%). ) And catering and hotel services (8%).” (Photo by Liang Pengwei)
The latest report of the WWF Hong Kong Chapter shows that Hong Kong’s per capita ecological footprint ranks third in the Asia-Pacific region and 14th in the world.
Li Weiyan, Senior Conservation Officer (Ecological Footprint) of WWF Hong Kong Branch, pointed out: "The consumption habits of daily users account for 76% of Hong Kong’s overall ecological footprint, with food accounting for the largest share (21%), followed by personal transportation (11%). ) And catering and hotel services (8%).” She continued: “Like the 2019 report, food is the largest source of Hong Kong’s ecological footprint. Seafood and meat account for the highest percentages, 30% and 25% respectively. ."
The report of the WWF Hong Kong Chapter pointed out that if the world's human beings follow the lifestyle of Hong Kong people as the standard, it will take 4.4 earth's resources to satisfy this consumption habit.
WWF Hong Kong Branch Chief Executive Jiang Weizhi said: "The latest ecological footprint analysis reveals that our current lifestyle is not good for sustainable development." He pointed out: "We must make changes at the personal and social levels, including changing food production patterns and eating habits. For example, the Hong Kong catering industry can greatly reduce the local carbon footprint by promoting more dishes and less meat."

In fact, the environmental protection awareness of Hong Kong people is not weak. More than 90 adults agree that "protecting the environment is everyone's responsibility." However, many people do not know how to protect the environment and are unwilling to implement environmental protection.
