For the first time in eleven years, Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian Authority, has been invited to meet a senior Israeli official when his offices in Ramallah, West Bank, are only a few kilometers from Jerusalem.
The interview took place at the home of Benny Gantz, the Minister of Defense.
But this reunion does not bode well for a resumption of negotiations for the creation of a Palestinian state, which have been totally frozen for ages.
Significant detail: the holding of the meeting was kept secret until the last moment, as if such an interview still smacked of taboo.
The real angry subjects have not yet advanced an inch.
The concrete results of the two and a half hours of discussions are rather modest.
Israel will reimburse some 30 million euros collected by Israeli customs on behalf of the Palestinian Authority, which is practically in good repair ...
