Mexico plans to suspend crude oil exports by 2023 to pursue President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's goal of self-sufficiency in fuel production, according to Pemex CEO Octavio Romero, speaking at a press conference on Tuesday in Mexico City.
Pemex (Petróleos Mexicanos) is Mexico's state oil company.
"Almost 100% of Mexican crude will be refined in our country to guarantee fuel supply," said Romero.

In 2021, Mexico processed 714,000 barrels and exported more than 1 million barrels.
By 2022, Mexico will process 1.5 million barrels in our refineries and export only 435,000 barrels next year, Romero also said.
For 2023 and 2024, Romero said that all of Pemex's production will be refined, "because the Dos Bocas refinery and the Cangrejera project will come into operation, which will also refine more than 100,000 barrels; thus, practically 100% of Mexican crude will be refined. in our country to guarantee fuel supply ".
