Oberau - On December 28th at 1:44 p.m., the Oberau mountain rescue service received the alarm that two people from the Augsburg area had gotten themselves in the area of the Hohen Kisten.

Since the 28-year-old man and his 22-year-old girlfriend were in a crash site that was difficult to access, the chief of operations decided to carry out a rescue by helicopter.

Two air rescuers from the Oberau mountain rescue service flew to the Hohen Kisten in the Christoph Murnau rescue helicopter.

Due to the gusty wind in the ridge area with wind speeds of up to 90 km / h, the helicopter could not fly close enough to the deployment site and win the rescue off there. A ground-based rescue was therefore prepared as Plan B. The two air rescuers in the helicopter were bent down below the high boxes and first tried to reach them via the box car. A line of sight could be established, but an approach from the side or below was not possible due to the extremely fragile and steep terrain, so the rescuers climbed back to the ridge and prepared a rescue from above. In the meantime, Christoph Murnau was able to drop another 4 rescuers with additional rescue equipment on the Hohen Kisten in short weather windows.

At the same time, other comrades from the Oberau and Ohlstadt mountain rescue service set out with mountain rescue vehicles and ATVs with caterpillars in the direction of Kuhalm to ensure that rescued persons, rescuers and material were removed. Due to the loose deep snow and some avalanches on the forest road, the rescue vehicles could soon no longer drive, a path through the avalanches was dug by hand for the ATV. At around 4:20 p.m., the two uninjured climbers finally succeeded in securing the two uninjured climbers approx. 80 m below the ridge using the dyneema rope set. Three of them were all pulled up in the team train. A helicopter from the Bavarian Police Helicopter Squadron was called in beforehand for removal,However, this could not be used due to the snowstorm that had meanwhile existed in the Estergebirge, so that the two people had to descend to the Kuhalm accompanied by the rescuers. There everyone was picked up by ATV and brought to the rescue vehicles. 13 rescuers from Bergwacht Oberau, 10 rescuers from Bergwacht Ohlstadt and the crews of Christoph Murnau and the Edelweiß 7 police helicopter were involved for about 6.5 hours until 8:15 p.m. eb3 p.m. involved. eb3 p.m. involved. eb
