Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Siromolotov stressed that the presence of extremist groups in Idlib and the remnants of ISIS and al-Qaeda cells in Syria constitute a source of instability, explaining that the anti-terrorist operation is still ongoing.
In an interview with Sputnik Agency today, Siromolotov said, "The situation with regard to combating terrorism is still very tense. The difficult situation still exists in Syria, where the main destabilizing factors are the survival of extremist groups in the de-escalation zone in Idlib and the presence of ISIS and Al-Qaeda cells." .
Siromolotov stressed that the Syrian army, in close cooperation with the Russian armed forces, was able during the past year to consolidate success in confronting the terrorist organization “ISIS” on Syrian soil, indicating that as a result, “the capabilities of this organization have been significantly weakened, its strength and important means have been eliminated, and its organizational structure has been destroyed.” and reduce the provision of resources to it.
On the other hand, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Siromolotov suggested concluding an agreement on international regulation of Internet governance, pointing out that it would be effective if it was adopted by all countries.
“On the issue of Internet regulation, Russia supports the internationalization of Internet governance, the equal participation of states in this process, the preservation of the sovereign right of states to regulate the national segment of the Internet and the conclusion of an agreement on international regulation of Internet governance, which will be effective only if all states adopt it,” Siromolotov explained.
“This issue is being discussed within the framework of the International Telecommunication Union, in the events of which Russia plays the most active part, including in the work of all ITU study groups and working groups without exception,” Siromolotov added.
