The corona restrictions affect young people the most.

This is the conclusion of a study by the Bundeswehr University in Neubiberg.

The second New Year's Eve is again overshadowed by the pandemic.

- At the beginning of December, researchers from the university surveyed a representative 1166 German people about their New Year's Eve traditions.

"New Year's Eve has a special significance for young people," said Philipp Rauschnabel, head of the study.

Teenagers and young adults would use New Year's Eve to celebrate the end of the year and set goals for the new year ”.

According to the study, around one in four young people sees New Year's Eve as a new beginning, for older people it is less than one in five.

Parties, alcohol and raclette

The study authors also asked the test subjects about their New Year's Eve traditions: toasting with champagne, good food and sending out New Year's greetings are the main traditions of the respondents.

Younger people in particular are hit hard by the Corona rules, because parties, alcohol and raclette are among the most important activities on New Year's Eve for them.

Due to the corona measures, parties are only possible to a limited extent.

Almost every third respondent also stated that "Dinner for one" is a New Year's Eve tradition.

Fireworks not popular

Fireworks, on the other hand, are not very popular with many respondents.

You have good reasons against your own fireworks: These include protecting the environment, protecting animals and the cost of fireworks.

"For women, there is also the danger of having their own fireworks (30 percent), men see it a little more relaxed (17 percent)," said Philipp Rauschnabel.

"The study results also make it clear that fireworks are particularly important for young people," the result continues.

This New Year's Eve, there is a ban on the sale of fireworks in Bavaria.
