The second branch of the Russian organization Memorial, its center for the defense of human rights, was ordered to dissolve on Wednesday (December 29) by a Moscow court, just like its big sister Memorial International on Tuesday.

It had become quite predictable.
In view of the current climate, these sentences are arguably more shocking seen from outside Russia than from within.
Some colleagues still had hope on Tuesday regarding the historic branch of Memorial, given its seniority, the respect it elicits ... Me, no.
The case was quickly heard: the judges of both courts followed exactly the same course in their verdict.
We are of course sad at these unfair decisions and disappointed in the face of procedures which suffered from many irregularities.
But little surprise.
