Herrsching - That is extremely bitter. For the fifth time the semifinals for the WWK Volleys Herrsching was the final destination in the cup competition. As in the previous year against the Netzhoppers Königs Wusterhausen, the men of coach Max Hauser drew the short straw in a dramatic five-set match. This time they suffered a very unfortunate 2: 3 defeat at SVG Lüneburg (30:28, 19:25, 25:20, 18:25, 10:15). In the final on March 6th, the Lüneburgers will now face the winner of the second semi-final between VfB Friedrichshafen and Berlin Recycling Volleys. The duel between the two top teams planned for last week had to be postponed due to corona.

The spectators in the Lüneburg LKH-Arena, which was officially sold out, were offered an exchange of blows right from the start, in which the block work of both teams regularly caused a spectacle. WWK volleys grabbed a total of 17 times, the home side even more often. The outstanding actor of the evening was SVG top scorer Jordan Ewert, who scored 31 points and seven blocks. On the Herrschinger side, Tim Peter (18), Jori Mantha (16) and Samuel Jeanlys (13) got double-digit points. The WWK volleys secured the first set thanks to their strong nerves in overtime with 30:28 after defending a few set balls. Dorde Ilic finally won the set. The home side was unimpressed and really gave it a boost in the second round. The rulers struggled with some unfortunate attacks, while Lüneburg was more consistent offensively. The result was a 19:25 from the point of view of the WWK volleys and the set compensation. In round three, however, the tide turned again. The guests dominated the event thanks to some interesting block actions. At 18:12 the Herrschinger turned on the road to success, from which they could not be dissuaded until 25:20. In the fourth round, the SVG was on the trigger again. From the start, the guests ran after a deficit until they lost at 18:25. The home side took this momentum with them into the tie-break. The Herrschinger didn't manage to flip the switch anymore, so that they had to give up at 10:15 and thus said goodbye to the cup. Now the whole focus of the WWK volleys is on the three remaining main round games of the Bundesliga.Next Thursday (5 p.m.) the Hauser troupe will be performing at the derby at Haching-Munich, before the round ends on Saturday (January 8, 8 p.m., Nikolaushalle) with the home game against Frankfurt.
