A 16-year-old from Ohio was shot and killed by her father, who mistook her for an intruder trying to break into her home, according to a 911 911 call obtained by NBC News.
Janae Hairston died this Wednesday in a Columbus hospital about an hour after being shot in the garage of her parents' house on Piper Bend Drive in that city.
In an eight-minute call to 911, Hairston's mother explained to an operator that
her husband accidentally shot her daughter.
The woman, hysterical, called for an ambulance while a man said repeatedly in the background: "Breathe, darling."

"My husband made a mistake and shot him because he thought he was an intruder,"
says the mother.
“It was in our garage and my husband didn't know what was going on.
My God! ”Exclaimed the woman.
The mother assured in the call that she believed that the young woman had been injured in the chest.
In the audio, the two parents are heard wondering what the girl was doing in the garage.

Police arrived at the home about six minutes after the call.
The Columbus Police Division reported on its Twitter social network account that no charges have been filed although the case was referred to the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office.

The incident comes days after a North Carolina police officer shot his 15-year-old son in the head in what authorities believe was an accident.
According to prosecutor Ernie Lee, the teenager suffered a life-threatening injury Monday afternoon and was taken to a medical facility.
The boy remained in critical condition as of Wednesday, the Onslow County Sheriff's Office said.
The unidentified officer works for the Jacksonville Police Department and is on administrative leave.
