At least 18 people were injured as a result of clashes that took place today in northern France between police and migrants who were trying to reach Britain.
AFP quoted the local administration in the "Pas-de-Calais" region as saying in a statement that the police had dismantled a camp for migrants, noting that "police and gendarmes faced as part of an evacuation operation with hundreds of migrants who refused to leave the place."
The administration pointed out that "the police were targeted by several missiles, which resulted in the injury of about 15 policemen and officers."
A member of the Human Rights Observers network said that "at least three migrants were injured and taken to hospital," explaining that the migrants "threw stones at the police, who resorted to the use of tear gas."
The dismantled migrant camp, which housed mainly Africans, is located near a sea port where migrants regularly attempt to board heavy goods vehicles to reach Britain.
