Damascus-SANA

The Directorate of Health Affairs in Damascus Governorate has organized 9130 arrests against owners of shops and restaurants that violate health conditions and has closed 529 shops and restaurants since the beginning of this year to date.

The director of health affairs in the governorate, Dr. Shadi Khalouf, said in a statement to SANA’s delegate today that the organized seizures and closures are due to the presence of pre-minced chicken meat, spoiled chicken, displaying materials outside the stores, expired materials, and general filth, not wearing masks and gloves, not implementing the warnings directed to them and not showing documents.

Khalouf pointed out that more than ten tons of rotten meat and chicken unfit for human consumption were seized during the rounds of health control patrols on the markets, pointing out that more than 520 complaints submitted by citizens were addressed, as the penalties were tightened against shop owners that violated health conditions and did not adhere to preventive measures.

733 samples of food were withdrawn from shops and restaurants and analyzed in approved laboratories to ensure that they conform to the required specifications, according to Khalouf, who indicated that since the beginning of the year the number of carcasses in the technical slaughterhouse has reached more than 243 thousand carcasses of Awassi males, calves, cows and goats, while 150 carcasses were destroyed due to lack of Fit for human consumption.

Regarding the work of the Department of Spraying Insecticides in the Directorate, Khalouf explained that 2,253 missions of spraying insecticides of both types of spray and mist were carried out in a number of areas of the city and the banks of rivers and waterways.

The Director of Health Affairs called on citizens to call 127 in the event of any complaint to follow up and take legal action against violators.
