Tonight (Thursday), US President Joe Biden will hold another conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, amid general tensions between the two countries that have escalated in recent months.
This is what the White House announced.
This is the second conversation this month between the two.
In December, they talked during a secure video call about a confrontation between Russia and Ukraine while the House of Representatives warned Moscow of possible sanctions in the face of a scenario of Russian military intervention in the region.
In June, the presidents met face to face during a summit in Geneva, Switzerland amid insults that preceded a conversation that lasted several hours.
Some time after Putin, US President Biden made a statement to the media in which he said: "I am not against Russia, it is for the American people.
"Making connections with the world and protecting my people is my responsibility."
The conversation takes place against the background of the nuclear negotiations in Vienna between the powers and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
However the discussions in the Austrian capital were not mentioned in the official announcement.
At the same time, the White House reported that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken spoke with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zlansky, in which the senior diplomat stressed "US unreserved support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and its territorial continuity vis-à-vis Russia's military reinforcements on its border."
