Champagne and Restrictions: The World Prepares for New Year's Eve in the Shadow of the Omicron Israel today

Around the world are preparing to celebrate New Year's Eve in the shadow of a tremendous outbreak of the coronavirus' omicron strain.

Many countries have canceled events or significantly limited the scope of celebrations, in a desperate attempt to slow down the scope of contagion.

In the United States and European countries, where the outbreak is the most severe, many events have already been canceled and especially in South Africa, where the outbreak of the virus has begun, many events will take place as a series after a dramatic decrease in the extent of infection.

France

The annual fireworks and music celebration on Elysee Avenue in the French capital has been canceled after more than two days with over 200,000 new contagious in the country.

Across France events were canceled or significantly reduced and nightclubs were instructed to close their gates.

UK

Britain has taken less drastic measures and many events to mark the new year will take place, extended in a limited framework.

The special display on the Ferris wheel "London Islands" was canceled and Prime Minister Boris Johnson called on the public to exercise caution and not go out to celebrate major events.

United States

The more decentralized political nature of the United States and the size of the state have meant that in large parts of the state events have not been canceled at all and the authorities are preparing to allow the New Year celebrations as an orderly.

In New York, on the other hand, where 74,000 people were infected in the past day, it was decided to reduce the New Year ceremony in Times Square and not allow other large mass events.

Brazil

In Brazil, after a significant drop in the extent of the corona outbreak in the country, the authorities withdrew from the decision to cancel the New Year's events on the beach of the city of Rio de Janeiro.

However, some of the planned shows will not take place later.

The city of Sao Paulo has also lifted many restrictions and nationwide masses and lavish street celebrations are planned.

Australia

In Australia, where the incidence of morbidity has been significantly reduced in recent weeks the large fireworks event of the Port of Sydney will take place but in the limited presence of a crowd.

Nightclubs and bars will not close but will be required to comply with existing restrictions and for a mass event will require advance preparation, limitation of participants and ticket sales.
