Covid-19: Tour de France of new restrictions for New Year's Eve

Many cities have adopted specific measures intended to limit gatherings on New Year's weekends, such as the early closure of bars or the return to wearing masks outdoors.


The latest announcements by Prime Minister Jean Castex, such as the ban on drinking standing in bars and restaurants, or its ban in theaters and cinemas, will come into force on January 3.

By then, most cities are subject to additional measures to limit gatherings on New Years weekend.

  • PARIS

Bars in the capital will have to close at 2 a.m. on January 1 and 2.

Dancing is prohibited in all establishments open to the public.

Gatherings

"giving rise to the consumption of alcoholic drinks"

in public places are prohibited, under penalty of a fine of 135 euros.

The consumption and sale of alcohol are quite simply prohibited in certain very frequented areas, such as the banks of the Seine, the banks of the Île de la Cité and those of the Île Saint-Louis, from Friday 6 p.m. to the 1st. January at 6 a.m.

From December 31, the mask becomes mandatory everywhere outdoors in Paris.

  • NICE

The consumption of alcoholic beverages on public roads is prohibited, as is the consumption of food, even while walking.

The distribution of amplified music is prohibited.

Bars and restaurants will have to close at 2 a.m. on January 1, with the service stopping at 1 a.m.

Wearing a mask is always compulsory outside.

  • Lille

Gatherings giving rise to the consumption of alcohol on public roads are prohibited, as are the sale of take-out and alcoholic beverages from Friday, December 31 at 6 p.m. until Saturday, January 1, 6 a.m.

The mask becomes mandatory outdoors throughout the department from Friday.

  • STRASBOURG

Bars and restaurants, where dancing is prohibited, will lower their curtains at 3 a.m.

The sale of alcohol is prohibited from noon on December 31.

The consumption and sale of alcohol on the public highway will therefore also be prohibited.

Pyrotechnic devices are prohibited, as is the retail sale of gasoline.

There is a curfew for minors between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

  • Reindeer

Arrangements have been made to prevent rave parties, such as the one held in Lieuron last year.

Undeclared festive gatherings of a musical nature and the transport of sound equipment are prohibited from December 31, at 4 p.m., until January 3, 2022, at 8 a.m.

In Morbihan and Finistère, restaurants will have to close at 1 a.m. and bars at 2 a.m.

Similar arrangements should soon be made in Rennes.

  • NANCY

The mask is compulsory outdoors in the entire Meurthe-et-Moselle department on December 31 and January 1.

  • LYON

The consumption of alcohol in the street and its sale is prohibited in the department from 5 p.m. until January 1 at noon.

The sale and use of fireworks and firecrackers are also prohibited.

The measure also applies to the sale of fuel.

Wearing a mask is once again compulsory during gatherings on public roads.


  • MONTPELLIER

Alcohol consumption is prohibited on public roads, as is catering on Friday December 31 and Saturday January 1.

The purchase, sale and use of firecrackers and fireworks are also prohibited.

Wearing a mask is again compulsory in pedestrian and semi-pedestrian areas.

  • TOULOUSE

Alcohol will be prohibited on public roads throughout the department, from December 31 to January 2.

The mask could also be compulsory on the streets of Toulouse and in other cities.

Official decrees are to be published soon.
