It was an embarrassing escalation in the Jordanian parliament.
The dispute broke out between two Conservative MPs after parliamentarians debated whether the constitution should address both men and women in the future.
So far, only the male form of address has been used.
In Jordan women are legally equal in many areas of life, but there are still restrictions.
For example, only a man can bequeath citizenship to his children.
The planned modernization of the constitution is part of a reform initiated by King Abdullah II.
The vote on it had to be postponed because of the fight.
