The Office for Food, Agriculture and Forestry presents the new forest management report.

It is the planning basis for the next 20 years with regard to forest conversion adapted to climate change.

Eurasburg

- Which trees are felled in the 45 hectare Eurasburg community forest? And which ones are planted? Answers to these questions are provided by the new forest management report, which the Office for Food, Agriculture and Forests (AELF) Holzkirchen has prepared in cooperation with a forestry expert, the municipality of Eurasburg and the forest owners' association (WBV) Wolfratshausen. It was recently handed over to Mayor Moritz Sappl.

"As a basis for planning, the new forest management report sets the course for how the community forest is to be managed for the next 20 years," explains Christian Webert, head of the AELF Holzkirchen authorities in a press release. The planning was preceded by a detailed inventory. The forest was measured to find out how much wood there is in the 45 hectare community forest and grows back annually, how much can be used sustainably and how forest regeneration is developing “as a wise man for the forest generation of tomorrow”. The stock of wood in the Eurasburg municipal forest amounts to a whopping 15,000 cubic meters, and 330 cubic meters grow annually.

The forest owners association (WBV) Wolfratshausen is responsible for the implementation of the report in the community forest.

"For us as managers of the community forest, it is particularly important to preserve this stock, but also to use it sustainably," explains WBV managing director Florian Lohrer.

“When trees are felled, it helps to maintain the forest and increases the stability and diversity of the forest.” The most important goal of forest care is adaptation to climate change.

"The municipality of Eurasburg wants above all a structurally rich and stable mixed forest that will master the challenges of climate change in the best possible way and thus also offer the next generation an environment worth living in by maintaining protective and recreational functions," affirmed Mayor Sappl. "The recorded data showed us that the Eurasburg community forest has been managed sustainably and in an exemplary manner up to now," adds Sebastian Schlenz, advisory forester at the AELF Holzkirchen. As early as 30 years ago, species-rich mixed forests were newly established and firs were planted under dense spruce forests. Thanks to this achievement, half of the community forest already has a “target-oriented young forest generation”.

On the basis of the report, the actors involved work together to “maintain and manage the community forest in an exemplary and sustainable manner in the future,” said Webert, the head of the authority.

"The path to the climate forest that has been trodden for decades is being consistently pursued."
