Christmas pyramids, as they are known in Thuringia and the Ore Mountains, can also be admired in Reinhold Gleixner's house in Hilgertshausen.

Hilgertshausen - The 84-year-old engineer, who has devoted himself to carving in his free time since 1994, has dedicated himself to building noble Christmas pyramids during the Advent season.

His works are no comparison with the Christmas pyramids that are presented on Advent markets.

Gleixner's copies are purely handcrafted.

When you see what he “conjures up” out of birch plywood panels and how he then grinds each part individually and connects it with the other parts, you will like to believe that around 120 hours of work have been invested in even the smaller Christmas pyramids.

Reinhold Gleixner may have a blueprint, but as a rule allows his own ideas to flow into the building of the pyramids.

By the time the Christmas season with Maria Lichtmess finally comes to an end on February 2, Gleixner has set up three different-sized specimens in his living room, which also differ significantly in their construction.

Gleixner's Christmas pyramids are different in style and look like the works of art in the late 19th or early 20th century.

The largest Christmas pyramid with a height of 1.30 meters is electrified, but can also be operated by candlelight, like the other two pyramids, which are only one meter and 1.10 meters high.

The fact that Gleixner has placed his largest pyramid on his self-carved nativity scene, which is also in a self-made tea cart, creates the visual impression that the splendid Christmas pyramid has grown over the head of the "wood worm", as Gleixner calls himself.
