The Hersbruck animal shelter reports that the color of the fur of dogs and cats determines how long they stay in the shelter.

The leader is outraged.

Nuremberg - You can't do anything about your coat color, but that's exactly why you are rejected: black dogs and cats.

The Hersbruck animal shelter (district of Nürnberger Land) sees a problem in the fact that they are perceived as unaesthetic.

It narrows their chances of placement.  

In an interview with

, Martina Höng, the director of the animal shelter, explains that visitors justify their dislike with “bizarre statements”.

The animals often have to wait longer for an owner because their coat color does not correspond to the taste of the zeitgeist.

Then I don't want her 

“If we post black cats on Facebook, we might get 60 clicks.

Pedigree cats like Persian cats instead shoot through the roof, ”explains Höng.

Many young women even chose their pet based on whether it was suitable for selfies on Instagram.

“People are following a trend and I think that's terrible,” says Höng annoyed.

Superstition and the pursuit of something special stand in the way 

Also the superstition that black kittens bring bad luck if they run into you makes the placement more difficult.

That is why it often happens that a litter of small black kittens does not find an owner for a long time.

"Black animals are also beautiful," says Höng

.

But the zeitgeist demands individuality: "As soon as the pattern is special, white paws are involved or special spots on the face, the cats are conveyed faster."  

Black cats and dogs are not the only ones neglected because of their coat color.

There is also a problem with black rabbits.

Hamsters and chinchillas, on the other hand, benefit from their black fur - probably because it in turn makes them special.
