At least four people were killed and 15 others injured after a bomb exploded outside a university in the city of Quetta in southwestern Pakistan's Baluchistan province on Thursday, local police said. .
According to Zia Langau, an advisor to the province's interior minister, the blast was carried out using a remote control device.
He added that a student ideological group was holding an event when the explosion occurred.
Authorities said foolproof security arrangements have been made before the New Year.
There was no immediate attribution of responsibility.
Quetta is the capital city of the Baluchistan province, close to the country's border with Afghanistan.
The province has witnessed a decades-long insurgency by separatists demanding independence from Pakistan.
