The number of infections is rising again, both nationwide and in Lower Saxony.

Karl Lauterbach considers a new evaluation of the quarantine duration within the scope of Omikron to be sensible.

Berlin - Karl Lauterbach had warned of the inaccurate data situation of the corona pandemic.

Most recently, the number of infections had fallen, but the designated Minister of Health said that the incidence could actually be two to three times as high as stated in official statistics.

The Omikron variant in particular is a cause for concern.

Now the incidence is increasing again in the statistics - both in Lower Saxony and nationwide.

Corona pandemic: Also in Lower Saxony, increasing incidence and fear of Omikron

In Lower Saxony, too, politicians have to deal with the rising corona incidence.

In particular, there is great concern about the Omikron variant - in all probability it will soon also be the predominant virus variant in the corona pandemic in Lower Saxony.

So far, the number of cases here has been relatively low, at around a hundred Omicron cases.

In view of the tense Corona situation, warning level 3 will also come into force in Bremen from today.

In Lower Saxony, special rules apply over New Year's Eve.

Anyone who is infected with Corona or is considered to be a close contact with an infected person must go into quarantine.

In the context of increasing incidences, the duration of isolation could soon be limited in order to relieve critical infrastructure.

In Stephan Weil's state, the corona incidence has now increased.

After being at 128.2 yesterday, it climbs to 144.8 today.

The authorities reported 3,513 new infections, the previous day there were 2718. There were also 14 deaths in connection with a corona infection within 24 hours, a total of 6,814 people died from the virus in Lower Saxony.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Lower Saxony has infected well 440,381 people with the corona virus.

Nationwide increase in the seven-day incidence and further unclear data on the corona pandemic

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the seven-day incidence has risen again nationwide, from 205.5 the previous day to 207.4 today.

Within 24 hours, 42,770 new corona infections were reported to the RKI and thus 2157 cases less than a week earlier.

Last Thursday there were 44,927 positive test results.

In connection with the corona pandemic, 383 people died across Germany within 24 hours, increasing the number of deaths to a total of 111,602.

In Germany there have been a total of 7.1 million positive corona tests since the beginning of the pandemic.

In fact, the incidence in Germany could be significantly higher than the currently published values indicate.

Due to the public holidays in particular, the actual pandemic situation is probably not adequately represented by the statistics.

A celebration as safe as possible should therefore also be ensured over New Year's Eve, especially in view of the highly infectious Omikron variant.

Karl Lauterbach wants to get a realistic overview of the situation by the beginning of January.

Karl Lauterbach wants to rethink the duration of the quarantine as part of the corona pandemic, despite growing concerns about Omikron

The fear of Omikron in Germany is great, in Lower Saxony attempts are being made to stop the spread of the virus variant with the lockdown light. Health Minister Karl Lauterbach spoke

of a “dynamic situation”

in the

daily topics

, and he again warned against the advance of the Omikron variant. Lauterbach sees a significant increase in cases especially in Bremen, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia. Studies from Great Britain had recently suggested that the effect of the booster vaccination could wear off faster with the Omikron variant than with Delta. The concern grows.

Within 24 hours, the increase in Omikron cases was last at 26 percent, as the RKI announced.

Lauterbach expects the number of Omikron cases to double within four to five days.

The current situation in the corona pandemic may require changes to the quarantine duration and contact restrictions, according to the health minister-designate - the quarantine duration could soon also be shortened in Lower Saxony.

He would like to submit proposals for further measures against the virus variant by next week at the latest.

So far, the RKI has recommended a fortnightly quarantine to infected people and contact persons at Omikron.

If the number of infections increases, this could become a problem for the critical infrastructure.

Karl Lauterbach, who recently did not rule out a hard lockdown, is therefore considering changing the rule. * Kreiszeitung.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
